Jo Adell triggered flashbacks of Jose Canseco’s infamous blunder from 1993, allowing a baseball to hit off his head for a home run in a Los Angeles Angels loss to the Colorado Rockies.

The glove gaffe occurred in the top of the fourth inning of the 8-2 setback Tuesday in Anaheim, Calif. Rockies designated hitter T.J. Rumfield received credit for the 364-foot solo shot.

“It hit off my hat,” Adell told reporters, according to MLB.com. “I don’t know if I overran it and took a step over. But it was kind of the icing on the cake because I was [bad] all the way around the whole day…”

The Rockies scored three runs in the second inning and added four more in the fourth before Rumfield walked to the plate. The Rockies slugger hit the first pitch he saw from Angels starter Grayson Rodriguez deep to right field.

Adell turned and sprinted to his right, following the ball’s flight toward the warning track. He then reached up his gloved left hand, but missed the catch. Instead, the ball ricocheted off the glove, hit Adell’s head and bounced, landing above the yellow line on top of the outfield wall.

The play was reminiscent of Canseco’s blunder, which missed his glove, hit his head and went out for a home run during a Texas Rangers loss to the Cleveland Indians on May 26, 1993 in Cleveland. Canseco also went 0 for 3 in the setback.

Adell went 0 for 4 in Tuesday’s Angels loss.

Rodriguez struck out catcher Hunter Goodman in exchange after Adell’s miscue. Angels left fielder Wade Meckler plated the game’s final two runs with a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth.

Rockies starter Tomoyuki Sugano allowed five hits and two runs over five innings to earn his fifth win this season.

The Rockies bullpen combined to allow just two hits and no runs or walks over the final four innings. Rodriguez allowed eight hits and eight runs to drop to 2-2 in 2026.

Adell, who struck out twice Tuesday, hit .232 with nine home runs and 34 RBIs through his first 62 games this season.

The Angels (23-39), who own baseball’s worst record, are now on a three-game losing streak. They will host the Rockies (24-38) in a series finale at 9:38 p.m. EDT Wednesday at Angel Stadium.
