The Cleveland Browns will release veteran safety Juan Thornhill, he confirmed Monday on social media.

Thornhill, 29, totaled 49 combined tackles and three passes defensed over 11 starts last season. The six-year veteran signed a three-year, $21 million deal with the Browns in 2023. Advertisement

“Where to next?” Thornhill wrote on his Instagram story, while including photos of other NFL team logos.

Thornhill was a second-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2019 NFL Draft. He won Super Bowls while with the Chiefs in 2019-20 and 2022-23.

Thornhill received the 40th-best defensive rating among safeties last season, according to Pro Football Focus.

He could be among several players who started last year that won’t return to the Browns. That list might include two All-Pros — guard Joel Bitonio and defensive end Myles Garrett.

Bitonio, a two-time All-Pro, recently told BrownsZone that he is undecided about retirement. The 33-year-old started 161 games for the Browns over the last 11 seasons. He received Pro Football Focus’ 40th-best offensive grade among guards last season. Advertisement

Garrett, 29, requested a trade earlier this season. The four-time All-Pro and 2023 Defensive Player of the Year signed a five-year, $125 million extension with the Browns in 2020. He restructured that deal in 2023 to help the team create cap space.
