The Detroit Lions will be the home team for the NFL’s 2026 game in Munich, Germany, the league said Tuesday.

Additional details, including the Lions’ opponent and the time and date of the game at Allianz Arena, will be announced this spring when the NFL reveals the 2026 schedule. The Lions and 10 other teams hold marketing rights in Germany.

“It has been a dream of mine to play a game in my mother’s home country of Germany since coming to the league,” Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown said in a news release.

“I cannot wait to play in front of the incredible fans that I’ve gotten to know through my visits and football camps in the country. Their support for me and the country’s instant connection to the Lions brand is inspiring, and I’m looking forward to our team getting to showcase Detroit football on an international scale.”

The Munich game will be one of a record nine international NFL contests played in 2026. Those matchups will be held across four continents and seven countries — in eight stadiums.

“We are thrilled to be playing internationally and specifically in Munich for the 2026 season,” Lions president and CEO Rod Wood said.

“As an organization, we have invested greatly in the German market and are excited to play in front of our passionate German fans.”

The NFL plans to hold another game in Munich in 2028 and two in Berlin in 2027 and 2029.

The Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars are among the other teams who have been announced as participants for international games in 2026.

The 49ers, who will play in Melbourne, Australia and Mexico City, will become the first NFL team to play two international games in the same season that won’t be held in consecutive weeks.
