The Boston Red Sox acquired Rookie of the Year finalist Caleb Durbin through a six-player trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, they announced Monday.
The Brewers also agreed to send fellow infielder Andruw Monasterio, infielder/catcher Anthony Seigler and a competitive balance Round B selection in the 2026 MLB Draft to the Red Sox.
The Red Sox will send left-handed pitchers Kyle Harrison and Shane Drohan and infielder David Hamilton to the Brewers.
“I really like a lot of what Caleb brings to the table, strong defender, strong bat-to-ball skills, really versatile right-handed hitter,” Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow told reporters.
“I also feel like he is a good fit for our park given the profile of hitting the ball in the air to the pull side. I think there was a 20% air-pull metric last year. I feel like that will play well at Fenway [Park].”
Durbin, 25, hit .256 with 11 home runs, 25 doubles, 53 RBIs and 18 stolen bases over 136 appearances during his rookie season.
The third baseman, who was a 14th-round pick by the Atlanta Braves in the 2021 MLB Draft, was traded to the New York Yankees in 2022. The Yankees traded Durbin to the Brewers in 2024 as part of their acquisition of pitcher Devin Williams.
Monasterio, 28, hit .270, with four home runs, 16 RBIs and two stolen bases over 68 games last season for the Brewers. He is eligible for arbitration in 2027.
Seigler, 26, hit .194 over 34 appearances last season for the Brewers. He hit .230 with 37 home runs and 199 RBIs over 451 career minor league appearances. The No. 23 overall pick by the Yankees in the 2018 MLB Draft signed with the Brewers as a free agent in 2024.
Harrison, 24, went 1-1 with a career-best 4.04 ERA over 11 appearances last season, which he split between the San Francisco Giants and Red Sox.
The Giants traded the third-round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft to the Red Sox in June in their deal to acquire Rafael Devers.
Harrison went 7-7 with a 4.56 ERA over 24 starts in 2024 for the Giants. He went 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA over seven starts in 2023. Harrison is eligible for arbitration in 2028.
Drohan, a fifth-round pick by the Red Sox in 2020, went 5-2 with a 3.17 ERA over 15 minor league appearances last season. The 27-year-old, who has yet to make his big league debut, went 31-21 with a 4.29 ERA over the first 104 minor league appearances of his career.
He is now ranked as the No. 30 prospect in the Brewers system, according to MLB Pipeline.
Hamilton, 28, hit .198 with six home runs, 19 RBIs and 22 stolen bases over 91 appearances last season for the Red Sox. The Brewers traded the eighth-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft to the Red Sox in 2021. He hit .222 with 14 home runs, 47 RBIs and 57 stolen bases over the first 204 appearances of his career.
Hamilton is eligible for arbitration in 2027.
“Obviously, this was a big trade for us and something that we’ve looked at for a while,” Brewers president of baseball operations and general manager Matt Arnold said.
“When you tie this to a deal like Freddy Peralta’s that we made recently, our ability to add multiple arms — young arms and controllable arms — is something that’s really exciting for us.”
Red Sox pitchers and catches will report to spring training Tuesday in Fort Myers, Fla. Their first full-squad workout will be held Sunday at JetBlue Park at Fenway South.
Brewers pitchers and catchers will report Thursday in Phoenix. Their first full-squad session will be held Feb. 17 at American Family Fields of Phoenix.
