Seattle Mariners, prospect Colt Emerson agree to record $95M contract

The Seattle Mariners agreed to an eight-year, $95 million contract with top prospect Colt Emerson.

Sources told MLB.com, ESPN and The Athletic about the agreement on Tuesday. The pact, which includes a ninth-year club option. would set a record as the most lucrative for a player with no major league service time.

Emerson joined the Mariners as the No. 22 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. The 20-year-old infielder hit .288 with 23 home runs, 130 RBIs and 37 stolen bases over 227 minor league appearances from 2023 through 2026.

He is baseball’s No. 7 overall prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.

Emerson went 5 for 14 with a double and a two-run homer over his first three appearances this season for the Class-AAA Tacoma Rainiers. He went 8 for 22 (.364) with two home runs, two doubles and nine RBIs over six appearances last season for the Rainiers.

Emerson went 11 for 41 (.268) with two home runs, a double, triple, five walks and eight RBIs over 18 spring training appearances, but did not make the Mariners’ opening day roster.

The Rainiers will host the El Paso Chihuahuas at 6:05 p.m. local time Tuesday at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Wash. The Mariners will host the New York Yankees at 9:40 p.m. in Seattle.
